June 26: Departure Day, Newark to Geneva
Group Meeting:
At 3:00 PM, meet your group leader and fellow students at the United check-in counter (outside of security) at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This is the official start of your Putney summer!
Group Flight:
The group will fly on United flight #956 departing Newark (EWR) at 5:50 PM, arriving in Geneva, Switzerland (GVA), at 7:45 AM local time on June 27 (8 hours en route).
June 27– July 1: Leysin, Switzerland
Begin in a chalet in the Swiss village of Leysin, high on an Alpine mountainside. Spend five days getting to know one another and taking advantage of the natural beauty of the Alps—hiking in meadows, walking atop glaciers, or canyoning in mountain streams. Take a day trip to the nearby city of Montreux to visit the medieval Chateau de Chillon or swim in Geneva Lake.
July 2–5: Florence, Italy
Travel by train to Florence and stay in a small hotel in the center of the city for four days as you delve into the city’s history, art, architecture, and food culture.
July 6–11: Osimo, Italy
Stay with local families and experience day-to-day Italian life in a small, medieval, walled village just twenty minutes from the Adriatic Sea. Both leaders stay in town during the homestay, and the group gets together for excursions throughout the week.
July 12–14: Trento Area, Italy
Travel by private bus and funicular to join local mountain guides for three days of trekking in the Dolomites of northern Italy, staying in a mountain rifugio.
July 15: Overnight Train to Paris
Travel by overnight train to Paris.
July 16–20: Paris, France
Spend six days exploring monuments, museums, markets, and cafés as we walk the streets and boulevards of the Left Bank, Île de la Cité, Montmartre, and other neighborhoods.
July 21–26: Biking in Holland
Travel by train through Belgium to Holland. Take a six-day bicycle trip along rural bike paths, through sand dunes, and past windmills and Dutch farms. Along the way, stop to swim at North Sea beaches, sail or windsurf on inland lakes, and visit the towns of Noordwijk, Haarlem, and Heemskerk.
July 27 & 28: Amsterdam, Holland
Spend two days in Amsterdam to explore its busy canals and streets, visit Anne Frank’s house, and see paintings by Rembrandt and Van Gogh.
July 29: Return Day, Amsterdam to Newark
Group Flight:
The group will fly on United flight #877 from Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS), returning to the International Arrivals Area of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) at 11:35 AM (8 hours, 45 minutes en route).
